When I should have been concerned with the fact that my mother was about to get a kidney cut out of her to be put inside my father – who of course, would also be cut open – I was worried about where all these people coming to my house were going to sit to eat their dinner. The dinner I could handle. I can cook the ‘standards’ pretty well. The seating? What they were going to eat on? What they were going to eat with? Those were different stories.

My husband – Keith – and I had a discussion tonight about whether something someone said was meant to be genuine or whether there was an ulterior motive. My husband felt the person was being genuine. I didn’t. At first, I didn’t know why I didn’t. I just didn’t. However, as I went to articulate my thoughts to Keith, I realized I did know why I didn’t totally trust this person’s intentions. It was because their words – and actions – were not congruent. Generally, when that happens, the person’s motives either aren’t sincere or are subconsciously perceived that way. This made me really stop and think about my own self – my own words and actions – and how I presented them to my family, my friends, my colleagues, and even my business, brand, and customers.
