Now I was feeling even more anxious because I was feeling guilty. When I should have been concerned with the fact that my mother was about to get a kidney cut out of her to be put inside my father – who of course, would also be cut open – I was worried about where all these people coming to my house were going to sit to eat their dinner. The dinner I could handle. I can cook the ‘standards’ pretty well. The seating? What they were going to eat on? What they were going to eat with? Those were different stories.

How to Get Away With A Lie… (Or How ‘Incongruency’ Makes You Appear Dishonest Even If You’re Not)
December 5, 2010 By kim Leave a Comment
My husband – Keith – and I had a discussion tonight about whether something someone said was meant to be genuine or whether there was an ulterior motive. My husband felt the person was being genuine. I didn’t. At first, I didn’t know why I didn’t. I just didn’t. However, as I went to articulate my thoughts to Keith, I realized I did know why I didn’t totally trust this person’s intentions. It was because their words – and actions – were not congruent. Generally, when that happens, the person’s motives either aren’t sincere or are subconsciously perceived that way. This made me really stop and think about my own self – my own words and actions – and how I presented them to my family, my friends, my colleagues, and even my business, brand, and customers.

The Business Babe Guide™ Power Mom™ – Nicole Feliciano
December 4, 2010 By kim 1 Comment
Nicole Feliciano is more than just another, “pretty face.” After graduating from Vanderbilt with a degree in English Literature, Nicole ventured into the (sometimes) glamorous world of advertising. In 1997, she switched gears and went to work for Ralph Lauren–combining her business acumen with her love of fashion. It was a match made in preppy heaven. In her seven year career with the luxury brand, Nicole managed retail stores and eventually landed a coveted position at the corporate headquarters in NYC. Sitting in on design meetings with the big guy was pretty heady stuff. There was only one thing that could cause her to leave that sweet discount and glamorous lifestyle behind…LOVE.

You the “It” Girl? Why Being Most-Valuable-Mom (Woman; Wife; Friend; Family Member, Boss, Business Owner) Has NEVER Been Easier.

I have never been really good at organizing my communication with friends and family. I am ultra-organized at work – and hardly ever forget a detail. But it’s as if I use up all my “organizational ability” on the job. Then, outside of work, I just become this bubbling nincompoop who forgets almost everything. I hate to admit this, but I have forgotten to get my own kid a birthday card once or twice and there are relatives and treasured friends out there I am sure have never, ever, received any kind of card (nevermind, gift) from me at all.
